Delhi: Government on Wednesday constituted a five-member expert committee on Telangana issue headed by former Supreme Court Judge B N Srikrishna. A Home Ministry spokesperson said the committee will hold wide-ranging consultations with all sections of people and different political parties and groups in Andhra Pradesh. The other members of the Committee are Prof (Dr) Ranbir Singh, Vice Chancellor, National Law University, Delhi, Dr Abusaleh Sharif, Senior Research Fellow, International Food Policy Research Institute, Delhi, Dr (Ms) Ravinder Kaur, Professor, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT, Delhi and Vinod K Duggal, former Home Secretary, who will also function as its Member Secretary. VIJAYAWADA: Unable to bear the shock of the gruesome murder of his 10-year-old daughter two days after she was kidnapped, a top Andhra Pradesh businessman died of a cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning.
Palagani Prabhakara Rao, who was in the liquor, real estate and finance business and was a leader of a backward class organisation, collapsed in Vijayawada on Monday evening after hearing the news of his daughter’s killing. Doctors said he had two cardiac arrests and died at a private hospital on Tuesday morning. “There is huge public anger over the killing of innocent girl. I heard men and women in TV debates asking the government as to why the murderers can’t be killed in an encounter,” chief minister K Rosaiah told reporters. Read the rest of this entry »

In yet another tragic turn to the kidnap drama, Palagani Prabhakar Rao, whose 10-year-old daughter Naga Vaishnavi was abducted and murdered by his close relatives, died of heart attack on Tuesday morning at Help Hospital.
Mr. Rao went into a state of shock on Monday evening as soon as TV channels began flashing the news that the skeletal remains of his daughter, who was abducted in broad daylight on Saturday morning, were found in a blast furnace in a workshop near Guntur. He was initially rushed to a heart specialist but was later shifted to Help Hospital for critical care and trauma management. HYDERABAD: Justice T Goplalakrishna on Friday directed local television channels to stop telecasting programmes containing scenes of violence and vulgarity. The judge had earlier issued similar directions in a writ petition filed by Kameshwar Rao, a practising advocate who complained that such indiscreet telecast by channels had adverse effect on viewers. The interim order which covered a vast variety of genres include visuals in crime teleseries and crime news in the name of Crime Watch, Neralu Ghorallu, etc; visuals of vulgarity and obscenity; visuals of dead bodies, violence against women and children; provocative or instigative speeches; visuals of persons destroying public and valuable property; visuals of innocent people committing or having committed suicide.
The interim order also included contents in scrolls apart from debates which are provocative and unwanted.

HYDERABAD: Congress leaders from Telangana are said to have decided in principle to suspend their Telangana agitation as the Centre is set to announce a high-level committee next week.
The Congress legislators will meet on Saturday to formally endorse the proposal to suspend the agitation “for the time being,” a senior leader said.
According to him, following the clarification given by Union home minister P Chidambaram on the proposed committee and the meeting the Telangana Congress leaders had with Sonia Gandhi, they have decided to ask legislators to withdraw their resignation letters submitted to the Speaker. HYDERABAD: Osmania University, the hotbed of Telangana agitation, was devoid of any activity even as the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram’s announcement on a committee for Telangana led to discussions among political circles.
Except the students sitting on the relay hunger strike in front of Arts College and a few hanging around the lawns there was no reaction from the agitating students till the evening much to the disappointment of media men.
It was only towards the evening that students gathered in groups and discussed the announcement details as media gathered there.
